Stomp-Head

I prefer the whole tube amplifiers. Is Stomp-Head as good as a valve amps?
The Stomp Head is an alternative to classic big and heavy tube amps. The amp is designed with a completely new and innovative  approach.  Rather than being a big and heavy, the Stomp Head  is very light and compact at the same time it sounds like a high end classic tube amp.

We've been able to achieve such results by applying our proprietary analog MTD  technology where a 12AX7 tube shapes the sound in power amp as well as in preamp stage . We also implemented a number of our own inventions which are responsible for natural and saturated sounds of the amp. According to testimonies of many musicians whom  have had tested the Stomp-Head, despite of its compact size and significantly low weight, the amp sounds and is as loud as any high end classic tube amp.

Can I use the Stomp-Head as a power amplifier and connect another preamp to it?
Yes, simply plug a preamp into  RETURN FX-Loop of the amp.  Only MASTER and BOOST potentiometers will be active.

How loud is the Stomp-Head comparing to full-tube amps?
The Stomp-Head is a tube amp and is exactly as loud as any tube amplifier. The dynamics and compression are also the same as in all full-tube amps.

Can  amplifier be used with different voltage? (120V or 230V)
In all models at the back of the amp a power switch is mounted. It enables  voltage change between 120V and 230V. The amplifiers are factory set at 120V or 230V depending on which country they are shipped to.

Can I control the amplifier functions using an external controller?
It's possible in SH5.CE, SH4.SL, SH4.HG, SH2CL i SH2HG models.

Can I substitute  the 12AX7 tube as  I prefer another tube brand?
We suggest not to. Optimal operating parameters of tubes 12AX7 are set during amp's manufacturing process. The characteristics of each tube in the amplifier is  individually tuned at MTD system (Master Tube Design), to achieve the best performance possible. It is not recommended to replace the tubes. Replacing working tubes with some other brand will not improve the sound. The 12Ax7 are already tuned to perform at maximum capability.  Only broken tubes should be replaced. The tubes in MTD technology works in perfectly designed environment which allows them to have very long life span. If not mechanically damaged there is no reason to change them for years

What's going to happen if I unplug the cabinet while playing?
This situation isn't as dangerous as with most of traditional tube amps. Stomp Head can work without plugging the cabinet. In traditional amps situation like this can cause the breaking of amp's transformator. With Stomp Head there's no such a worry.

Do I need any  special cable to plug in Stomp-Head to the cabinet?
You can use classic jack-jack cable for PA columns. With 70 Watt power there is no need to use cable with bigger profile.
The Amp got single speaker output. Is there a possibility to plug in the two 8ohm or 16ohm cabinets?
Yes. Most of the amps got two speaker outputs, which allows to connect more columns. In practice it doesn't matter if the cabinets are connected together at the speaker outputs, or at the cabinets inputs. You can easily combine, and plug in two columns to Stomp-Head, just keep in mind to check, if the impedance switch is set up correctly. (It does not apply to Stomp-Head 1BL, which adapts automatically).
Sample  options:
2 x 8ohm cabinets - we get 4 ohm impedance
2x 16ohm cabinets - we get 8 ohm impedance
How does the "amp overload signalization" works, and when  the amp can be overloaded?
Stomp-Head is protected against overheating. Overheat may happen when there won't be the airflow in the amp cooling system. You should pay attention if the vents are not covered, or blocked. In case of overheating, diode will signalise it, and the whole amp will be automatically switched off.

The amp is equipped with only one speaker output. Is there a possibility to plug in two 8ohm or 16ohm cabinets?

Yes. Most of the amps have two speaker outputs, which allows you to connect at least  two speaker cabinets. In reality, if two cabinets are used, it really doesn't matter if both are connected to the amps separate speaker outputs, or as a chain  from the amp to the cabinet and from the cabinet to the other speaker. Thus, the Stomp Head can be easily used with more then one speaker cabinet connected. Just keep in mind that the impedance switch must be set correctly. (It does not apply to Stomp-Head 1BL and SH-6, which are adjusted  automatically).

Sample  options:

2 x   8ohm cabinets = 4 ohm impedance

2 x 16ohm cabinets = 8 ohm impedance

Can I send the signal from the amplifier even if the speaker is not plugged in?
Yes. It can be done by Line Out which is equipped with a"Speaker Simulator" and allows you to send a signal to some other devices such as a power amp, mixer, tuner etc.  In the newest models of Stomp Head the Line Out sends two different signals through the Stereo Output ( TIP - signal with "Speaker Simulator", RING - clean, original sound). Both can be used simultaneously or sent separately depending if STEREO or MONO jack is used.

I've got 4 speaker cabinet. Can I plug it to the Stomp-Head?
Yes, you can plug to the amp a cabinet with any number and combination of speakers.

Is the amplifier spill-resistant?
Like all electrical devices, it must be protected against spill. Generally, the Stomp-Head is not exposed to situations where we put a drink on it, like it often happens in case of traditional heads and combos. Simply there is no space for it. However, we predicted such a situation and we placed all the vents in such a way to protect the critical components of the amplifier against spill. Eg. if somebody would accidentally spilled a drink on the amplifier.
